The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) administers and manages the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) scheme, which aims to create a retirement fund for employees. Under the EPF scheme, employees and employers contribute to the account monthly. The interest income is also computed monthly on the account balance. However, the interest is credited to the EPF account annually.

For the financial year 2021-22, there was a delay in the EPF interest credit due to a software upgrade. However, the EPFO has now started paying the EPF interest to registered members at 8.10% per annum. If you have an EPF account, there are multiple ways of checking your account balance post the PF interest payment. These ways are as follows –

How to check EPF balance?

1. Through SMS
Send a text message to 7738299899 by typing <EPFOHO UAN ENG>. Provide your UAN number in the text for the EPF balance check, and you will get a revert stating your account balance.

2. Through a missed call
You can give a missed call to 9966044425 and find out your account balance.

3. Through the UMANG App
Download the UMANG app on your Smartphone and register on it. Once registered, you can instantly check your EPF account balance through your Smartphone.

4. Through the official website
The EPFO has an official website that offers various services to members, checking the EPF balance being one of them. The process to check the balance online is as follows –

  • Visit www.epfindia.gov.in and go to ‘Our Services’
  • Select ‘For Employees’
  • Click on ‘Member Passbook’ and provide your Universal Account Number (UAN) and password
  • The passbook will be displayed containing all the details of your EPF account. In the passbook, you can check the EPF interest amount that you earned for the financial year 2021-22 and the aggregate balance.

The EPF scheme is a tax-efficient saving scheme that is available for employees. The scheme pays guaranteed interest income on your and your employer's contribution, helping you create a secured corpus over your working years. Though this year's EPF interest credit was delayed, the EPFO has released the interest payment. You can check the interest you have received and your aggregate account balance to know where your EPF account stands. Use any of the abovementioned methods and instantly check your EPF account balance.
